I am a big wrestling fan. Every Monday evening I relive the same
experience. I stop by the "kwiky mart" and pick up some beverages,
drive to a friends apartment, watch wrestling. We flip back and forth
between the channels trying to make sure we don't miss anything
important. We argue about which wrestlers are the best. Unfortunately,
our Monday night routine is being threatened as of late. Wrestling is
being pre-empted and I am not referring to a dog show.
I watch wrestling because I like the violence. My friends watch
wrestling because of the violence. My friends and I are MEN, we like
violence. We do NOT spend out afternoons watching Guiding
Light or Days of our Lives. I want to make this very
clear - many people refer to wrestling as a "soap opera for men". I
agree with that statement. I do not however, enjoy that WWF and WCW are
trying to make these "soap opera's for men" more like the daytime
versions.
I am sick of the growing number of skits we, the audience, are being
subjected to. As soon as Terri Runnels and Jackie hit the scene I use
the remote to flip to Nitro. When Undertaker attempted to embalm
Austin, I was watching Nitro. When Mark Henry and Chyna went on their
date, I was watching Nitro. When Scott Steiner pushed Kimberly out of
the limo, I WISH I could have been watching Raw.
Let us not forget the "sport" part in "sports entertainment". The
stories I like can be told in the ring. And that is the bottom-line, if
you can smell what this roody-poo is baking…
